Kitchen Screen over Wi-Fi
Send orders from the POS straight to the Kitchen screen in the Kassly app over your shop Wi-Fi, so the kitchen keeps getting counter orders when the internet is down.

Kitchen orders normally travel from the POS to Kassly's servers and from there to every kitchen screen. That needs the internet at both ends, so when the shop's connection drops, the kitchen stops getting orders.
With Receive orders over the shop Wi-Fi turned on, each paired POS also sends its orders directly to the kitchen tablet over your shop Wi-Fi. While the internet works, orders still go through the cloud as well, and the two copies show as one card. When the internet is down, the Wi-Fi copy still arrives, and everything the kitchen taps is saved and sent to the server once the connection is back.
This is for the Kitchen tab in the Kassly app on a tablet. The browser kitchen display at
/app/kdsdescribed in Kitchen display only gets orders through the cloud.
It needs the same add-on as the kitchen display itself: Kitchen Orders & Tables (₱400 per branch each month). See Plans & add-ons.
Before you start
- The kitchen tablet runs Kassly and is signed in, with the Kitchen tab open. It is an ordinary Kassly device: sign in and link it to a terminal like any other. See Terminal management.
- It must be in the same branch as the POS terminals. A kitchen screen only shows its own branch's orders, so it turns away a POS from another branch (see the messages below). Link the tablet to a terminal in that branch.
- Every device is on the same Wi-Fi. A guest network that keeps devices apart from each other will not work.
Turning it on at the kitchen screen
- On the kitchen tablet, open the Kitchen tab.
- Tap the Wi-Fi button at the top right, next to the refresh button.
- Turn on Receive orders over the shop Wi-Fi.
The panel then shows a QR code, the tablet's Address and a six-digit Code. The code only works while this panel is open. Once POS terminals are paired, the Wi-Fi button shows how many of them are connected.
Pairing each POS
Do this once on every POS that should send orders to this kitchen screen, and keep the kitchen panel open while you do it.
- On the POS, open Settings → Kitchen displays.
- Tap Scan its code and scan the QR on the kitchen tablet, or tap Type address, enter its address and code, and tap Pair.
The kitchen screen appears in the list on the POS with Connected under it, and the kitchen panel lists the POS under Connected:. A POS can be paired with several kitchen screens, and a kitchen screen with several POS terminals.
What goes over the Wi-Fi
| From the POS | Reaches the kitchen screen over Wi-Fi |
|---|---|
| A sale paid at the counter | The moment it is paid, online or offline |
| A dine-in order sent to a table, or items added to an open tab | When it is sent. Sending still needs the internet |
| An order sent from an order pad in Order Mode | When it is sent |
| A sale voided at the POS | It is taken off the kitchen screen. A void that is waiting for a manager's approval stays until it is approved |
| An online store order | No — online orders only come through the cloud |
If the kitchen screen is set to one prep station, it shows only that station's lines, exactly as it does for orders from the cloud.
When the internet is down
- The Kitchen screen keeps working. With Wi-Fi orders on, it does not switch to the "You're Offline" screen.
- Counter sales keep arriving from every paired POS, as soon as they are paid. Dine-in orders cannot be sent to a table while offline, Wi-Fi or not.
- The kitchen's taps are kept. Start, Ready and Served work as usual. They are saved on the tablet and sent to the server when the connection is back, with the time each one was tapped, so the prep times stay right. The Wi-Fi panel shows how many are still waiting, as "3 kitchen updates waiting to reach the server".
- A restart does not lose orders. If the kitchen tablet restarts while offline, the orders it got over Wi-Fi come back on the board.
When the sale syncs and the cloud copy arrives, it joins the card that is already there. It does not appear twice, and it does not undo anything the kitchen has already marked.
Messages and what to do
On the POS, under each paired kitchen screen in Settings → Kitchen displays:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Connected | Nothing. Orders are going over the Wi-Fi |
| Not reachable at … Check it's on and on the same Wi-Fi. | Check the kitchen tablet is on, on the Kitchen tab, and on the same Wi-Fi. If its address changed, pair it again |
| This kitchen screen shows … orders, and this POS is in another branch. | The kitchen tablet is linked to another branch. Link it to a terminal in this POS's branch; they reconnect by themselves, without pairing again |
| This display was reset or re-keyed. Pair it again. | The kitchen screen's pairings were cleared with Forget all POS terminals, or another device now answers at that address. Pair again |
On the kitchen screen, the Wi-Fi panel lists every connected POS, and any it has turned away, as "Turned away POS 1: it's in another branch."
The POS finds the kitchen tablet by its address. If your router hands the tablet a new address after a restart, the POS cannot reach it until you pair them again. Reserve the tablet's address in your router's settings, as you would for a Wi-Fi receipt printer.
Unpairing
- One POS: tap Unpair next to the kitchen screen in Settings → Kitchen displays on that POS.
- Every POS at once: in the kitchen tablet's Wi-Fi panel, tap Forget all POS terminals. Each POS has to pair again.
Turning off Receive orders over the shop Wi-Fi stops the Wi-Fi orders; the kitchen screen keeps getting orders through the cloud.
What it does not do
- It does not replace the internet for dine-in. Sending a table's order to the kitchen, settling a tab and online orders all still need a connection.
- Kitchen screens do not talk to each other. A tap made on one kitchen screen while offline reaches the others only after it reaches the server.
- Wait times for offline sales can be off on the kitchen Stats screen. The wait is counted from when each line reached the server, and the lines of a sale rung up offline only reach it when the sale syncs. A kitchen that started the order before then shows a wait that is too short, even negative. Prep times are not affected.
- It works only on the same network. A POS and a kitchen screen in different places, or on different Wi-Fi networks, can only use the cloud.
